PRAISE IN PUBLIC...CRITICIZE IN PRIVATE

The second most violated management principle. Anger can get a leader in deep trouble. The theory is very simple: NOBODY LIKES TO BE HUMILIATED!! But everyone likes to be complimented in public for a job well done. Take care of your people, and they will take care of you: Rule #1.

When things go wrong, immediately screaming obscenities at him/her is a sure way to have your people turn against you. Humiliation went out with the Pilgrim's dunking chair. All you have done is to create a mortal enemy and make yourself look really BAD. Take the offending individual aside for counseling - in private, after you calm down. Humiliation is not something easily forgotten. Being congratulated for a job well done (in public) goes a long way to develop self esteem within your group.
